Water meter recall
ITRON, our water meter company we use has two recalls on meters affecting approximately 15% of the meters serving customers within the district. The majority of the service meters subject to the recall are in Port Hadlock, Irondale, and Chimacum. Marrowstone Island has 38 and Kala Point has 4 meters on the recall list. Some, not all meters affected by the recall that malfunction tend to read extremely high for one or two reads and then fail completely. Of the known recall models installed in our system, three have failed thus far.
Our water crews are in the process of changing out these recalled meters (over 25% complete) and plan on having them completely replaced within several weeks. ITRON is compensating the PUD for the cost of their replacement. If you believe you have had an unusually high water bill recently, please contact our customer service line at 385-5800 and they will determine if you meter is scheduled for replacement as a part of the recall. Customers will not have to pay for meter reads that result from a malfunctioning meter subject to the recall.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
