Storm Season has Begun: Avoid Downed Power Lines.
Winter is here. And winter means stronger winds, and branches and trees falling onto power lines. It also means power lines sometimes break and fall to the ground. Downed power lines are extremely dangerous. They can charge the ground up to 35 feet away. If you encounter a downed power line, stay back. Call the PUD or 911 immediately. Under no circumstances should you try to move it or drive over it. More info in this illustrated pdf from Electrical Safety Foundation International.
