Electric Rate Increases begin July 5th

At the June 17th PUD Rate Hearing, commissioners unanimously approved a resolution adopting a new electric rate schedule that includes a 4-year slate of increases.

The rate increases come as a result of a year-long cost of service study and public discussions dating back to November 2024.

Beginning in July, electric rates will increase by an average of 9%. Based on the countywide average household usage of 1,000 kWh/month, the typical residential bill will rise an estimated $10-$12 per month. Though the rates take effect in July, the new rates will not show up until next month’s bill, after the July billing cycle is completed.

“Rates are always a hard topic,” said GM Kevin Streett. He added the approved increases will make the utility more reliable for the future by funding substation improvements to keep up with increasing demand.
