Electric Carshare comes to PT

The City of PT, Chamber of Jefferson County and OlyCAP partnered with non-profit Zero-Emission Vehicle Cooperative (ZEV Co-op) to provide the first low-income EV carshare program in Jefferson County.

A ribbon cutting event to celebrate the recent launch of the new EV carshare program will be held at the Chamber of Commerce office at 2409 Jefferson St B, Port Townsend, WA on November 15th, 2023 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.

Two EV carshare cars are currently available in Port Townsend: a Chevy Bolt EUV at the Chamber, and a Chevy Bolt at OlyCAP 7th Haven. Each site will receive an additional EV in the next year.

ZEV Co-op is member-owned and offers electric zero-emission vehicles to residents of underserved, low-income, and rural communities. Carsharing is a system where individuals have access to a network of vehicles for short-term rental, whether by the hour or week.

The City, Chamber and OlyCAP partnered with ZEV Co-op to apply for funding from the WSDOT ZAP grant program designed to provide low income EV carshare programs. Statewide, the ZAP program provided $2.3M for 18 carshare programs. The Port Townsend projects were awarded a total of $199,943.

ZEV Co-op, the Port Townsend joint Climate Action Committee (CAC) EV work group and partnering organizations sought ZAP funding to help speed the transition to EV’s in Jefferson County as one way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The CAC program considered ways to make EV’s accessible to a wider range of households and businesses while reducing the number of cars owned.
