2022 Jefferson Fair & Upcoming Events

After a 2-year hiatus, fair season is back in Jefferson County and the PUD is taking part.

The Jefferson County Fair this past weekend was a great opportunity for PUD staff and commissioners to connect with customers in person and not over Zoom. The PUD’s main booth featured a water taste test offering up 3 options from PUD water resource team-managed sites around eastern Jefferson County. Visitors did the blind taste test of each source (Gardiner, Quilcene, and Mats View) and tallied their favorite! One day one Quilcene was the clear favorite; Day two went to Mats View, and Day three saw Mats View yet again, making it the overall winner by votes!

The Mats View water system is located above Mats Mats Bay near Port Ludlow and serves 25 customers in that area.

Also in the main booth, fairgoers got to experience PUD gigabit internet in action with a Smart TV demo and free gigabit speed WiFi. Curious customers could enter the addresses into the live fiber project map (link) and see if and when PUD fiber internet would be available at their home or business.

Perhaps the biggest hit, especially with our youngest visitors, was the PUD’s Power Town demonstration. Using real electricity and scale model toys, Power Town offers visitors a look at potential hazards surrounding electricity. Line Superintendent Josh Garlock and Line Foreman Jonathan Dehnert were onsite from 11-3 each day of the fair to walk visitors through Power Town and explain how lineworkers keep the lights on and make sure our customers are safe.

Thanks to all who stopped by the PUD’s booth in the New Commercial building to say chat with staff and commissioners, grab some free swag, and catch up on some of the big things happening throughout your utility.

Upcoming events:

PUD staff will be attending the All County Picnic on Saturday, August 20th 11am–4pm @ HJ Carroll Park. While Power Town and the Internet Demo won’t be available at the All County Picnic, staff will be on hand to answer questions and talk preparedness and resiliency. More information here.

PowerTown and PUD Internet Displays will be back for the Quilcene Fair & Parade on Saturday, September 17th in Quilcene. More information on that event can be found here.
