Fiber Update – Making Connections
The PUD has built fiber to more than 650 homes and connected over 100 homes and business to our new publicly owned, super high-speed network. We’ve come a long way, but with over 1200 total locations signed up for fiber in the project area, we’ve still got a ways to go.
If you are one of the 650 homes with fiber to an outside wall but no service just yet, expect to see our splicing contractors come by to install a box to the outside of your home in the coming weeks and months (pictured).
If you are one of the 600 homes who haven’t seen construction, be on the lookout for a phone call from our contractor soon. They are working to design the best route from the street to your house. Input from you helps ensure they can avoid any obstacles and get the fiber to the home at the best spot for you and the PUD. They’re moving fast and will need to estimate the best route if they can’t get a hold of you.
When Will I Get Internet?
The answer varies depending on where you live, or in which PON. There are two large groupings of PONs: Quilcene and Gardiner. Within each grouping are the sub-PONs labeled A-H. PON locations are pictured in the maps below. Estimated install dates are listed in the following table. Note, we continue to experience splicing delays and have had to push back installs one more month since the last update. However, we expect to make up time in September and should be back on course after the delay.
Past the Threshold
Fiber Kickoff at the Quilcene Fair
Mark your calendars and join us at the Quilcene Fair from 11:00am – 3:00pm on Saturday, September 21st for our fiber project kickoff event. We’ll have our fiber trucks in the parade, our staff and commissioners will host a demonstration booth, and we’ll have a ribbon cutting at noon. Come by to be in the group photo. We’ll also be giving tours of some of the completed project sites.
