Public Records Request

Jefferson County PUD No. 1 is committed to operating transparently and serving the public in all that we do.  As part of that responsibility, we comply with the Washington State Public Records Act (RCW 42.56).  The PRA calls us to make available any JPUD records, barring certain exemptions, via a Public Records Request.

    • Please complete the Public Records Request Form below.  For the most efficient process, we ask that you include the following:

      1. Your contact information – as most original records are now in digital format, email is the best way to provide them to you. Also, we may need to reach out for clarification.
      2. Description of the specific records you are requesting, including names of individuals, date ranges, etc. – this facilitates our search and increases the likelihood of a quicker response, and prevents us having to send you an unreasonable amount of records to sift through.

If you choose to make a Public Records Request by phone or in-person, you can do so during normal business hours through our Customer Service Department.

      Monday  – Friday

      9:00am – 4:30pm

    • Once we receive your Public Records Request, the PRA stipulates that we respond within five (5) business days, at which time we will:

      • Provide records responsive to your request, or
      • Inform you that there were no records found that were responsive to your request, or
      • Reach out for clarification, or
      • Provide a reasonable estimate of time needed to search for records with a date by which you can expect us to respond again, or
      • Deny the request, if it does not meet the criteria for a records request, and provide a specific reason for the denial.

A records request with a high volume of responsive records may be sent in installments.  Any records (or parts of records) withheld will be noted with the specific exemption sited.  Common exemptions include:

      • Attorney-Client Privilege
      • Personal Identifiable Information
      • Proprietary Trade Secrets

Some records or responses may be delayed due to our obligation to send third-party notifications for certain requested records.

Tort Claim

If you believe you have experienced damages due to PUD negligence, your situation may be reimbursable via a tort claim. However, the vast majority of outages are not due to PUD negligence. Most are unpredictable and unavoidable “Acts of God” such as windstorms, fallen trees, car accidents (downed pole), etc. that are beyond the control of the PUD and therefore are not eligible for claims.

We highly recommend you install whole home and individual circuit surge protection to protect your home and personal electronics from damage.

To submit a claim online, please click the blue button below.

You can also download a PDF form and either email or mail it back to us. You can attach or submit additional supporting documentation with your claim. Be sure to print and sign two copies. Keep one for your records and submit one to our Tort Claims officer via email or by post to:
