Changes coming to PUD rebate program starting October 1

The PUD administers a rebate program for customers who install electrically efficient measures such as heat pumps, weatherization, appliances and lighting with funds provided by Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).

Ultimately, BPA determines what measures result in actual energy savings, what they will pay for and how much they will rebate.  Rebate measures increase, decrease and sometimes completely expire annually based on the state of the market or other new information based on their testing. Below are some significant changes that will go into effect October 1, 2016.

Measures increasing in rebate amount
Residential Variable Speed Heat Pumps w/o Duct Sealing (Existing and new SF, upgrade) From $500 to $700
Residential Variable Speed Heat Pumps w/o Duct Sealing ( Existing SF, Conversion) From $1,400 to $1,600
Residential PTCS and Prescriptive Duct Sealing (MH) From $200 to $250
Residential lighting (LEDs only) 17-75% depending on lamp type*

Measures decreasing in rebate amount
Residential Clothes Washers 17-38%, depending on measure
Residential Ductless Heat Pump (SF and MH, Conversion) From $1,200 to $1,000
Residential Insulation (Existing and Low Income MH) 33-50%, depending on measure
Residential Air Sealing (Existing MH) 50%
Residential lighting (CFLs)*

Measures set to expire (no rebate)
Any refrigerator or freezer

* Residential lighting rebates are available at stores participating in the “Simple Steps, Simple Results” program – a point of sale instant rebate program. By verifying the customer’s zip code, the store bills the rebate to the utility.    Starting October 17, an online version of this instant rebate opportunity will be available through Amazon.

Rebate amounts depend on when the measure was installed, not when purchased. Changes listed above take effect October 1. 2016 and apply to all installations October 1, 2016 until further notice.  Installations of measures prior to October 1, 2016 may be subject to different rebate amounts.
